Sydnee Sousa

Biography:

Sousa Law, LLC is proud to welcome their newest Associate Attorney, who joined the firm in the fall of 2022 with a steadfast commitment to advocating for injured workers under Connecticut law. She is fervently dedicated to effecting positive change in the lives of injured workers throughout Connecticut, ensuring they receive the full spectrum of medical treatment and benefits they are entitled to.

Her journey with Sousa Law, LLC began as a Summer Associate in 2020, leveraging her previous experience as a paralegal at the firm before pursuing her legal studies. This formative time equipped her with in-depth knowledge and skills in handling workers' compensation cases with proficiency. After her tenure as a summer associate and before her current role, she served as a legal research law clerk for the Connecticut Superior Courts, working closely with judges throughout the state.

She graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2021, where she made her mark as the Online Publication Editor of the Connecticut Law Review. She sharpened her legal expertise through an internship with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, mediating and investigating employment discrimination claims. Her background also includes serving as a law clerk on the staff of Senator Richard Blumenthal's Judiciary Committee.

Her significant contributions to legal thought are evidenced by her Student Note published in the Connecticut Law Review. The note offers a persuasive discourse, advocating for employers and insurance carriers to cover medical cannabis expenses for claimants, a topic of particular resonance amid the opioid epidemic. This insightful work, titled "Connecticut Workers' Compensation Coverage for Medical Cannabis in the Age of the Opioid Crisis" is available for review.
